Then you'll be prompted for a new unix password, just choose some and carry on.

When done, log out of the root session, kill the X server by pressing <Ctrl><Alt><Backspace> and log in as the new user, choosing KDE .

If the problem is some setting in your old .kde directory, the new user's KDE will work just fine.

No users can use kde. Creating a new user doesn't change anything. The new user can't choose kde as window manager.
