Linux WILL NOT recognize "Winmodems", only hardware modems. I have Mandrake 6.5 and got a USRobotics 56K voice modem which is recognized by Linux when the modem is not set up for plug and play. It needs to be set up for com 4 and IRQ 3 with the jumpers on the card.
