Hi all I'm a newbie, saw the Light of Linux! I do have some problems though... I'm runnging a PII333, 128Mb Ram, 3*4.3 GB IDE HDD, _________motherboard, S3 Virge DX 4MB pci, 3DFX Voodoo2 pci, Creative SB Live Value pci , SMC 1211TX Fast Ether pci NIC, a 1024x768 screen that works well in Win9x. Now my problem is as such: First time install, the Machine freezes with detecting PCI devices in setup, I know this because I tried all the installation methods(reccommended, costum, expert) - all same result. Then I got by this by skipping the PCI detection in Expert. (lothar has no problem in detection process - just doesn't get anything!) Everything else went smooth. up until I had to select Video modes. - On my 4MB card I am supposed to be able to display 800x600x16bit [at least please!]. Unfortunately Nothing I do Can make the X system display more than 640x480 - or maby it i 640x400 - not sure, but is one of them I have run Xconf, and gone through about 10-15 different setup configs (screen and card) - still nothing high enough for me to be able to use any X system effectively. ( the display is too small!), I got this on a similar system with a Alliance AT3D 2MB as well. DrakConf doesn't get it right either - The Network setup does not seem to have my NIC in there. What sould I do about this, Is there and equivilant? I need 100Mbs. ( On the other machine I need to get it working On a Proteon 132+ Tokenring - seems to work with exsiting network , but how do I make it connect to a Wingate proxy on my NT Server4 for internet/mail???) - My SB live does not work. I know there are specific installation instuctions - could someone mail them to me? - I have not been able to get the Voodoo2 to function either. I have edited the XF86Conf file with mc, vi and whatever I can get my hands on (liked mc - reminds me of NC ;-) ) I have done the monitor thing - I think everything that is available I have also exchanged quite a lot of hardware, and installed again, and again! I downloaded the 702 ISO image and burned my Mandrake CD, the CD Works Perfectly. My problems might be simple to solve, If so please help. I used to run windows, then I got linux wich seems - ;) - much better. But now I have to run Win to mail and get Internet to get support, A shame. Are there any drivers / setup confs that Is available?
