It doesn't take forever, actually about 30 hours.  I did it from tucows
using a program called getright for windows (very nicely written program!),
and I believe that gFTP under Linux could accomplish the same task.  It's
not the downloading part that's the problem, it's the disconnecting to use
the phone, then reconnecting and picking up where you left off - that's
where getright comes in handy.
