In KDE there are also two pretty nice utilities that you can use to do root stuff, and 
still
being an normal user. They are under Utilities --> File Manager... (superuser) and 
Utilites
--> Terminal (superuser)

The first opens an kfm being root, so you can browse your hole filesystem do what you 
want.
The second is an konsole being root.

I use them all the time and I had never to logout and login as root again, really nice 
tools.
