Hi Koly,
Halt is indeed even easier, but the newer computers have an ATX
powersupply/mainboard, that allow you to switch off the power through a
software command. Halt will stop the system and you press the power
switcht. Poweroff shuts the system and then automatically powers down the
computer.
Of course, poweroff has little use on a non-atx powersupply...
