[newbie] What's wrong with TAR???

Hi all!

After I've installed X 4, when I tar -xvf something, I get this error on
every file, but the files *do* unpack:

$ tar -xvf kde-qt-support-1.90.tar
tar: couldn't set uid 1002 gid 1002 using chown: Operation not permitted

The error message is not exactly as it is, this is my translation from
Russian. And I'm logged as root, I don't know why operation is not
permitted... Any ideas?
