well now I need to admit to not being much more'n sophmore newbie
myself ;) I don't very often run into needin to uninstall, 'cause
I can't resist upgrading (new install) everytime Mandrake does ;)

I have used the 'make uninstall' option when it was included by
the author. The few times I've removed a program I've used 'locate
<program name>' to find all the relative files, and then delete
them that way (slow and tedious), but many times you can just zap a
whole dir. I use KDE and Kfm, it's a lot easier than a bunch of
'rm's, specially since 'rm' is aliased to "Do you really... ? ;-)

the locate command is a good friend. I prefer it much more than
the KDE 'find' utility, which sometimes couldn't find it's way
out'a a paper bag. In a normal install, and the system is left on
overnite, the locate DB is updated at 4am. But you can find recent,
not yet added to the DB files quickly by updating the DB ('locate
-u' as root). Takes a minute, but it's still quicker/better than
'find'. 'Least ways for me it is.
