|Subject: [newbie] Network Trouble
|
|
|Another HUGE problem
|
|Mandrake has detected my NIC and i'm having trouble setting up the
|parameters so i can get internet access. Here's my problem, I have a cable
|modem which runs into a Linksys 4 port router. From there an RJ-45 runs to
|a hub and then out of the hub and Rj-45 runs into my computer. I
|can't seem
|to get access to the internet. Both my ISP and Router use DHCP and i'm
|clueless as to what to put.

Use Linuxconf (from Drakconf) to set up your card.

Make sure that dhcp is turned ON for your eth0 device.

Linux will take care of everything for you upon the next reboot...

... assuming your cable modem is working and so is you NIC card.

| When i go to configure i select eth0
|for my NIC
|and the right driver is also selected. What do i put for
|PrimaryName.domain, IP (this is tricky cause my router uses DHCP) and
|Netmask.

If you use dhcp just leave things blank. Linux will automagically configure
itself.

|Do i just leave them blank. Also, do i need to set a gateway and
|if so, do i put down the IP address for my router or the gateway my router
|uses from my ISP. Anyone else confused? Oh well ANY help at all would be
|greatly appreciated.

Nope, not confused...

|Maybe if i get this fixed i'll be able to
|get my sound card workin too.

Eh, you might need to do this first...

Run sndconfig from a console, not from Xwindows.
