[newbie] Screen Flashing

Hello,

Whenver I start up Mandrake 7.0 the boot up runs okay, but when it comes to 
the login screen it starts flashing. The error that it gives me is

IO ERROR IN XOPEN DISPLAY
DISPLAY : 0 cannot be opened
Server for Display : 0 terminated unexpectedly.

DOes somebody know why this comes error comes and how to fix it.
