[newbie] Printscreen?

I've seen many screenshots of Linux, but haven't been able to create them myself.  How 
do I do
this?  In Windows I would just hit 'Printscreen' and then paste it into an application 
like PSP5
or even Paint.  I am lost as to what to do in Linux, though.....
