[newbie] Problem with Cdrom and floppy under Mandrake7

I have just installed mandreke 7 and my Cd-rom and floppy don't work.
When I try to file in it a message that says "Impossible to elencate yhe
content of this directory" appears.
My system is composed by:
-pentium 200 MMX
-40 Mb Ram
-CD-Rom is a Hewlett Packard CD Writer 800 plus

What I have to do?
