when you read the log file from kppp this is the information that it states

Nov 12 18:28:25 localhost pppd[1041]: Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyS1
Nov 12 18:28:35 localhost pppd[1041]: Hangup (SIGHUP)
Nov 12 18:28:35 localhost pppd[1041]: Modem hangup
Nov 12 18:28:35 localhost pppd[1041]: Connection terminated.
Nov 12 18:28:35 localhost pppd[1041]: Exit.
