Do you have the same problem in Windows (in case you have that running
somewhere)?
If yes, then I suspect the audio cable from the CDplayer to the soundcard
has a problem.
Otherwise, hook a headphone to the output on the CDplayer, and check if
both channels work that way. To make sure that the CDplayer itself is not
at fault.
