Well, your experience confirms that my plan is possible.
That's definitely worth something.

This morning I took my daily crack ... at the problem, that
is, and DiskDrake complained the  partition table was too
corrupted! That's strange because In Win98, ScanDisk says
nothing, and neither does Norton Disk Doctor, or Partition
Magic 6! And I know that PM6 and Norton complain when the
partition table is messed up--it happened only yesterday.

Maybe that's my problem--I have some strange partition table
problem, and only Linux is sensitive enough to speak up
about it. That would explain why it couldn't find /dev/hda
or the zoneinfo data.

Does anyone know how I can fix something like that?
