If you're sure it's a hardware modem, then you also need to know the ioport.  
Setserial it after you set up an isapnp.conf (if it's an isa).  If pci, 
setserial aught to do it.  Then set up all the usual stuff in kppp (domain, 
phone numbers, dns, etc).
