might be the "lock", I do not use a lock on either configuration but I don't 
think so.
if you want to have demand dialing going on any time the linux box is running 
just add the ifup ppp0 line to the end of your /etc/rc.d/rc.local file with a 
good text editor. to get it started from any connected winblo$ box, you can 
either telnet or ssh (start> run> telnet ipn.umb.erg.oes.here for instance, 
for me I would go telent 192.168.0.1  then I will be in a remote console 
window. i could then work just as i would at this computer in a text console
