OK------ I'll take a stab at this.....even though I am sure I am not the best
one for it....here is how I did mine.........keep in mind i am a COMPLETE
novice to this myself......
First I had to get an ethernet hub.....(this is what all the computers
connect into)........then I installed network cards into all the
computers......linux and w98 boxes........
I put a US robotics 56k ISA modem into the linux box and got it configured to
connect to the internet like a normal computer......
>From the desktop (i used the graphical method......cause I don't know squat
about the command line yet)............
Clicked the DrakConf Icon on the desktop(have to enter the root password)....
Click Internet Connection Sharing........(maybe someone can expand on the
stuff here--but I think it pretty much set itself up)...(now the internet is
available to the windows 98 boxes that are connected to the Ethernet Hub....)
In windows98...... On the explorer toolbar..... VIEW --- INTERNET OPTIONS--
CONNECTION--------Choose Connect to internet via Local Area Network.....
I also ran the internet connection wizard......and choose connect through
LAN......
I of course had all the network cards running and connected into the hub
(lights showed up on mine showing they were connected)......and the drivers
for the win 98 box's ethernet cards installed right......
In the Linux box I have a 3com ethernet card --- mine autoconfigured after
Installed it........
Thats how I got my 56k linux connection to work with 4 other computers(win
98).....running through the Linux box...... now I am SURE that my way has
some security flaws and is not probably the prefered method..........buy hey
--it is working right now.........and that at least motivated me to get DSL
coming next week......(fast connections for ALL my computers :) I will
continue to read and learn more......but just getting this accomplished
helped to motivate me more......-----------still want to connect Linux box to
the network and go throught the other linux box.......(right now only have
the Linux box that servers as the connection to the internet---using that one
right now to send this letter)
Hope this helps a little-----would like to be of more help.......but I am
just the new guy on the block..... :)

Like I said------ I have alot to learn........but just getting connected
keeps me motivated to learn about Security...and all the other networking
stuff---------I will concentrate on the security stuff AFTER I have my feet a
little wetter :) ---- this has to be better than plain old WIN98
anyway...and I want to get a linux box connected at the bottom before I worry
alot about security(I don't worry too much about that---can always reformat
hard drives and start all over :) Nothing REALLY important on my systems
yet... just glad I can surf the net from all over my house <grin> Also this
keeps me from having to battle with kids to read my newbie mail when they
want on the internet :)
