Normally logrotate drops all the services temporarily to archive and recreate the log files. This issues an IF-DOWN and IF-UP command to your network devices, disconnecting you from your ISP.
Check to see what time it happens. I'll bet it occurs between 4:00am and 4:30am every day. You could prevent logrotate from running, but you'll then need to manage your logs manually. -JMS |-----Original Message----- |From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] On Behalf Of Admin |Sent: Saturday, September 29, 2001 9:28 PM |To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] |Subject: [newbie] Disconnect every 24 hours | | |Hello: | |I have a peculiar problem. I leave my pc pretty much connected to the |internet 24/7. Since installing LM8.0, it will disconnect |every 24 hours, |almost to the second. To get around it, I have configured my |dial-up to |re-dial when disconnected. At first I suspect there is |something in the cron |files, which is causing this event. There is one directory called |cron.daily. I have looked into the different files in this "daily" |directory, but I don't recognize anything, which would make me |think cron is |forcing a disconnect every 24 hours. Any ideas as to what |might be causing |this event? Thanks... | |Regards, | |Dexter | |
