It is dependant upon the logrotate scripts themselves.

Have a look.

Some versions brought down the interfaces, others did not AFAIK.

|Thats strange, I have a mdk7.2 box that has been connected via
|dialup for 19 days straight now,,
|
|it is rotating the logs just fine, and I haven't been disconnected..
|
|just my observations...
|
|Its not good as far as I am concerned, to have a possibly
|mission critical server that can restart services at its own leasure...
|
|I can't imagine anyone doing that, but if its true, it would
|require a script change for logrotate before I would allow it to run..

|Normally logrotate drops all the services temporarily to
|archive and recreate the log files. This issues an IF-DOWN and
|IF-UP command to your network devices, disconnecting you from your ISP.
|
|Check to see what time it happens. I'll bet it occurs between
|4:00am and 4:30am every day.
|
|You could prevent logrotate from running, but you'll then need
|to manage your logs manually.

||
||
||Hello:
||
||I have a peculiar problem. I leave my pc pretty much
|connected to the
||internet 24/7. Since installing LM8.0, it will disconnect every 24
||hours, almost to the second. To get around it, I have configured my
||dial-up to
||re-dial when disconnected. At first I suspect there is
||something in the cron
||files, which is causing this event. There is one directory called
||cron.daily. I have looked into the different files in this "daily"
||directory, but I don't recognize anything, which would make me
||think cron is
||forcing a disconnect every 24 hours. Any ideas as to what
||might be causing
||this event?  Thanks...
||
||Regards,
||
||Dexter
