MySQL makes a nice interface that you can run in X, but it helps if you have a little 
bit of database knowledge. There's also MySQLman that works nicely to configure and 
maintain databases. it uses a web interface that allows you to browse, select, update 
and anything else you'd do with a MySQL database from a command line.

I've got both of them and if you like I can email them to you. shoot me a message off 
list and let me know. Both programs are freeware.
