ned, If you have a network card for the laptop and you have another computer, the network install is pretty painless. The hardest part is getting the built in firewall to allow the NFS connection. I have 8.1 running as a gateway/router on a p200mmx with 32mb ram. Seems to be working ok. Not great for running x though. Blackbox is quick but the mandrake configuration programs are pretty slow.
