Well, there are lots of application programs and a lot of choices on
those other two disks. They may not be useful to you, but then again
they might.

Here are some of the things you probably didn't install:

You got KDE and GNOME Desktop environments and IceWM-light as a
failsafe, but you probably did not install

blackbox
xfce
AfterSTEP
WindowMaker
Enlightenment
Fvwm

This will not affect the functionality of the system. Of course, you
will not see a background with water rippling at the bottom and
reflecting the things shown on the screen, but eyecandy is for those who
like it.

Now probably also you did not install the development system. So you
have Perl and Python, but not many other interpreters and compilers.

Last I looked, the Enterprise edition of Visual C++ was selling at about
$1000. You have equivalents in power with glade, KDevelop, kdestudio,
and gcc, but most of that is on CD2 and CD3.

Database systems that are extremely sophisticated are around. Some of
them will need to be installed to run effectively with Java which you
will need to download to make your browsers fully functional. unixODBC
works with Java. MySQL and postgresql are there.

There are many programs that are just convenience programs. There are
at least 7 editors you did not load, and DansGuardian or junkbuster to
take care of unwanted pop-up ads and pestiferous porno sites.

But mostly, you have a functional system. Just remember that Windows XP
is most of a CD and provides notepad and solitaire. We are three CDs so
we offer a lot more to round out your computing experience.
