How do I go about that? I've used mc to look at lilo.conf, is that the one? There are a couple of entries that have acpi in them, but nothing which obviously (to me) says enable, or not.

I know you are trying to get a handle on the cli thing, but I am not to well versed in it. I would use mcc and boot then "set up how the system boots" and put an x in "enable acpi" box. In lilo it should show as something like acpi=yes or similar. HTH

After my last message I went to MCC and checked the "enable acpi box". Tried the reader in every usb port, and looked at usbview, still nothing. Tried lsusb, just to be absolutely sure - still nothing. <sigh>
