One of the really surprizing things about 2005 is how much more reliable
it is than 10.1 - as I reported a while back on the list, it has run
perfectly with no issues yet other than the fact that I had to get a
controller modem for it. But, that is pretty much par for the course.
Normally, other distro's have some problem here and there, usually an
application will not open when you click it or something, but nothing so
far with Mandriva 2005 Limited. Whatever these guys did, they are on
the right track - but if there are any company guys listening to this
channel, PLEASE loose the giant killer penguin splash screens /
wallpaper that look like a homicidal crow.
The reason is this - I do a lot to promote Linux, and that means showing
it to anyone that is willing to take the time. Since Mandriva 2005 is
my distro of choice, that is what I usually demonstrate - but (sorry
guys) when I boot my machine up and that freaky penguin shows up, the
people get this look on their faces like they wonder what they have
gotten into - even my little sister that has always trusted my judgement
and who allowed me to switch her computer over said something about that
penguin.
It is childish looking first of all, and the graphic looks like a
cartoon. I would like to see something a bit more professional -
professional like the distro is. In fact, the distro is so far superior
to most other distros, I can't figure out why they would want to use
that ridiculous splash screen and wallpaper. Now, I know some of you
are going to say that I can change that to whatever I want, but that is
not the point. What if I recommend that someone buy it - and they fire
that rascal up and there it is.
Anyway, I do not mean to start a controversial thread here, and I do
believe that I am representing what most people already think - I was
just hoping that perhaps some developer might monitor this channel and
take some action or at least report back to home base on this.
