I don't know if this helps or not, but I had a problem with samba when I had named my machines in the MCC internet connection.  I had named the linux machine cjt-design-server.com.  The dot com didn't go over well with samba.  Once I went to something like CJT-PC-SR as the machine name all of my samba mounts worked fine.
