I try to install GTK+ from gtk.org and get the following error.

configure: error: Package requirements (glib-2.0 >= 2.7.1 atk >= 1.0.1
pango >= 1.9.0 cairo >= 0.9.2) were not met.
Consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you
installed software in a non-standard prefix.

Alternatively you may set the BASE_DEPENDENCIES_CFLAGS and
BASE_DEPENDENCIES_LIBS environment variables
to avoid the need to call pkg-config. See the pkg-config man page for
more details.

I've installed the dependencies. What gives? Do I need to install
gtk+<version>-devel? If so, where do I find it?

1.) What version of Mandrake/Mandriva are you running?

2.) Is there a reason you didn't want to stick with the packages that are already compiled and packaged for the system you have?

3.) Are you aware that once you start playing around with GTK and the base system (mostly Gnome based libs and apps) you stand quite a fair chance at completely hosing up your system?

1.) Enterprise 2005
2.) I didn't know that they were installed. I'm trying to install Mozilla from source (I want to install some fonts and I've been told that unless I build from source, the font I want won't install. I've tried running the binaries and changing the font in question, and experience seems to confirm what I had been told.
3.) No, I wasn't aware of that.
