... I'm a newbie, long time windows guy in Atlanta, showed up here a year
or so ago, and while not a guru, with you guys help got my feet wet with
Linux (Mdk 10.1, Suse 9.2 going on VMWare) ...

... have subscribed to alot of mailing lists over the years and have never
seen one yet that doesn't have folks with a need to vent once in a while ..
I think it's very healthy and the reactions I see here are for the most
part wholesome and quite humorous actually ... I love reading this list
each day, that's where I have really learned Linux (unix), listening in,
and feel like I've gotten to know some of you quite well ...

... hang in there Mr Geek, this forum is a treasure !!!

Subject: [newbie] On second thought,...

Having considered all my options and so-called 'free' time, and the
direction that this list seems to be heading, I'm surprised that I've
stayed on board for as long as I have.

I've been here long enough to see a large amount of newbies become
Guru's (each is their own way), and I'd like to think that I've helped a
few members with various problems (technical and otherwise! Grin!) but
I've also been here long enough to see withered old folks like Joe
poison this list into their own soapbox.

I'm sure that some will see things differently, just as I'm sure that
Joe will do everything in his power to justify his perspective of
events, making sure to twist his involvement to his own liking and to
make him look like a martyr.

People like Joe seem to have this pent up anger that they simply have to
vent somewhere and this list provides him with a great location for
some free therapy.

But in the process, he also taints good people like Lyvim Xaphir and
myself to the point where we just can't be bothered sparring with him
anymore. As long as lists like this allow people like Joe a safe harbour
where he can manipulate things to his liking, allow him to post his
political garbage and otherwise be a thorn in the mix, he and people
like him will continue to thrive.

So I'm going to take Lee's suggestion and take it somewhere else. I've
successfully blocked, plonked and filtered Joe to the point that he
won't be much of a bother anymore, much less a waste of my time, while
others know how to contact me off-list if they wish, but as of now,
the best way to defuse the situation is to remove myself from the
list(s) and allow Joe free reign to hassle, attack and insult people to
his black heart's content, or until someone adds a new option to the
Netiquette rules which allows him to be de-fanged and dropped from the
list.

It certainly has been a great ride folks, but it's not worth the crap,
and it shouldn't be left up to a few members to deal with the likes of
Mr. Hill, while facing more crap from other members who couldn't be
bothered to do something about Joe themselves.

So, Joe wins, and everybody else loses. Pretty soon, they'll have to
rename this to the 'JoeHill list at mandrivalinux dot org', and he'll
finally have his own personal soapbox where he can spout his tripe for
all it's worth.

Note to Joe - You may find it lonely at the top of your own personal
garbage heap, but remember, you're still standing on garbage.

Mr. L. Geek - Leaving because Joe Hill is a waste of skin and isn't
even worth the sweat on my genitals.
