This is my first attempt at setting up a software RAID. I'm using 10.1 i586. I have 6 SCSI hard drives. /boot and / are on the first, non-RAID. The second is a simple non-RAID data disk. I want 3-6 to be part of a RAID 5 setup; all 4 of these are the same drive model (18 GB Seagate SCSI.) Here are the steps I follow, using DiskDrake:

(1) On each drive, create a single partition of type "Linux RAID".
(2) On each drive, select this partition and add it to RAID MD0. I selected blocksize 8K because this will hold a PostgreSQL database, and RAID type 5. (3) On the RAID tab, I selected type ReiserFS, options sync and noatime, mount point /pgdata. I formatted it and told it to save /etc/fstab.

Upon exiting, I am able to mount /pgdata and create a file there. df -k indicates /dev/md0 has about 50 GB, which is right for a 4-drive RAID 5. So everything is OK at this point.

However, when I reboot, I get a message that the superblock is corrupted. If I drop into repair mode and comment out the line in /etc/fstab, I can boot. Then I have to start the RAID creation all over again.

What step am I missing? I found a post just like this one in the archives, but no solution was ever provided. Thanks for any pointers.
