Yes, but you will need a little configuration first.  As root, look 
at /etc/samba/smb.conf.  First, copy the file to smb.conf.orig, because 
there is a lot of useful hints and tips in it.  Then read it carefully, 
cutting out bits that don't apply to your network - there will be a lot 
of it.  Early on you will find a line that names your network - make 
sure that it matches the network name on the windows box, and remember 
that case sensitivity can be a problem.

Then you will need to add yourself (and anyone else on the lan that 
needs to access the other box) to samba-users.  Many people like webmin 
for doing that.  It's not installed by default, but does give you a 
useful gui.
