Thanks for your reply, Mikkel. I'm really glad I asked this question. 
Obviously, there are a number of ways of doing this. Unfortunately, I don't 
believe either of the two above will work in my case. While the computer 
running ML9.1 has both serial and parallel ports, the portable running Knoppix 
3.9 has neither.

Just my luck. Both computers have USB ports. I can investigate this option, now 
that I know it's a possibility.
