This did lead to a sample of what the tutor looks like. http://www.truth.sk/vim/vimbook-OPL.pdf I am sure that is what I want to see, but why can't I? Does vimtutor have to be entered at a bash$ prompt? How do I get there?

Open a terminal and type 'vimtutor' (without the quotes) at the prompt
will bring it up.

I cannot recall if vimtutor was part of vim-common in 8.2, or if it was
a separate application. The problem is that 8.2 is so old now, few if
any of us here will still have it around let alone running.

So until your CDs ariive I would be studying vimbook-OPL.pdf - it's a
very good tutorial for vi(m).

I am so frustrated at this point, that I feel like scrapping the whole thing. Every thing was going so good until I hit this road block.

Yeah, we've all been there at some point, keep on bashing at it, it'll
come together for you suprisingly quickly. :-)

a better question (or hint) might be to ask if a less capable editor but easier to learn) might be a better answer for a newbie?
