Another reason to look at Google Talk is that they have just released not only the API of their Jingle Audio Chat (i.e. Skype-like Internet Telephone) but also a reference library implementing it. All the Open Source IM applications are now racing to see who will be first to implement it. AND GMail registration is now open to us Kiwi's (and you Aussies too, and a couple of Asian nations as well) using their SMS registration procedure.
