I'm working on redefining some of the keys on my keyboard. I think I have figured out how to do it with xmodmap. It would be convenient while working on this to be able to press a key and have its scan-code returned. xev does this as I understand it, but it not on my 2006 distribution - at least that I've been able to find. Before I go about getting it, I am wondering if there's another routine that is on the distribution? MCC >Hardware>Keyboard doesn't appear to have such a facility.
Also, any opinions on whether xmodmap is the best way to go to make the changes?
