Just a quick little rant here, but instead of looking for a different
distro to jump over to, why don't we consider making one of our own?
There's a lot of experts and experienced people on these lists, as well
as a lot of newbies who know quite a bit and the tools *ARE* out there
for us to use.
After all, isn't that exactly how Mandrake/Mandriva was born in the
first place? If nothing else, it would allow us to take the best that
all the distros have to offer and merge it into one cohesive system that
we all find useful.
OH, I realise that there's a lot of people who have other obligations,
etc., but I'm not suggesting that everyone kiss their wives and kids
goodbye and lock themselves in their computer rooms for the next 10
years or anything, but if Mandriva is really going to start losing a lot
of ground, that going to create a serious vacuum (Nature abhors a vacuum
- to quote Mr. Spock) and since we all love the distro itself, why not
take a natural step and take this distro where we want it to go?
If CentOS and Whitebox can do it to Red Hat's Enterprise Edition, why
can't we do something with Mandriva? We already have the motivation (a
great distro and a good bunch of people), so why not take responsibility
for putting out a 'Mandriva on Steroids' distro that we can steer in the
direction we want?
Is that what it's all about? Choice and Freedom?
Just a thought for your consideration folks.
do you remeber on this list some many years ago we had some of the folks
(Yama, Thac, Texstar) who started PClinuxOS? check it out,,,
maybe the natural next step...
