I have a similar problem (more severe) on a 3 years old Gateway laptop. After 1 minute idle, the screen freeze. Neither the mouse or the keyboard answer. I don't have this problem with Mandrake 10.1 ou Kubuntu 5.10. I tried to install Mandriva 2006 with plenty of variations on the parameters (noapic, nolapic, acpi=off). The installation allways goes well; but, after the installation, acpi=off makes linux crash just after the lilo screen.
If anyone as a solution, I would be happy to try it.
