[newbie] boot mandriva from portable HD

hello friends,
I want to ask. can we make our own portable USB Harddrive installed with
linux like the globetrotters.the reasons is perhaps we want a bigger drive
or just want to make our own customization.or can we just copy our installed
mandriva from our linux box to the portable drive and carry it to everywhere
we want to work.I succeed to copy my entire installation of mandriva from
my old drive to the new drive and just install the LILO on the new drive and
edit the lilo.conf on the new drive. can we do the same on the USB portable
drive.and if we are using a regular 3,5inch HDD with IDEtoUSB adapter can it
work too? sorry if this topic is already discussed earlier.
