Hello.

Configuration:
HP Pavilion zd8000 laptop.
Pentium 4 3.40Ghz.
2Gb RAM.
Mandriva One (As supplied from Linux Magazine May 2006).
Broadcom bcm4318 integrated Wireless Hardware.

Wireless Problem:
I have installed Madriva One and it loads fine, however I cannot configure the Wireless Network as Mandriva reports that no interface is configured. So I login to the control panel and opt to configure a new wireless interface. I opt for my drivers that are used in Windows XP from the same laptop and use ndiswapper to load the drivers (bcmwl5.inf and bcmwl5.sys is located in the same directory).

The ndiswrapper configuration starts and then fails with an error "unable to find ndiswrapper interface". I really want to kick MSFT to one side and use this Linux OS, but this is a major hurdle I need to overcome.

Booting into Windows and the wireless interface i there and I can work with it.. :-(

Any advice for me is greatly welcomed.

Simon.

Simon,

I have the ZD7000 laptop, but I didn't go for the HP supplied wireless card.

Fortunately, there's an excellent forum where you can get all the help you need for your laptop, with lots of info on how to set it up for your wireless card;

http://www.zd8000forums.com/

Lots of HP users have done your setup before and have it working nicely.

Also, if possible, remove the ndiswrapper package that you've installed, but ONLY if you can install the 'dkms' and 'dkms-ndiswrapper' packages instead, then reboot the laptop, allowing dkms to build and install the ndiswrapper kernel-module for your exact kernel, then check that forum.

IIRC, you need to use some generic WindowsXP drivers from another site in order to get your Broadcom card working properly.
