Cameron MacDonald got an infinite number of monkeys to type out:
Turns out there was something wrong with the "hald" and "dbus" RPMs from SoS.
I knew it!!!
Not to jinx anything, but since I removed the SOS version of dbus
(which somehow managed to stick around even after I'd installed a newer
version along with Charles' XFCE4, along with other, older conflicting XFCE
packages), two annoying problems seem to have disappeared.
Nothing against Hawkwind, but I have had negative experiences with SOS RPM's in
the past, including installing a newer kernel, and finding that it had
rewritten LILO so that the only entries were for the SOS kernel, leaving me
with very few easy options at the time (I know better now how to recover
from such a situation, thanks to Dan L.)
I had trouble with his KDE RPMs also (KDE is such an ugly word, isn't
it, Joe?). I remember getting some kind of snotty responses from
Hawkwind on the MDV irc channel last year. Granted, I have no idea what
his situation was, i.e. not enough coffee, too many stupid questions,
not enough of something else(?). All that soured me just a wee; I've
stayed away since.
Hawkwind has done a heap of great stuff; this is all just my opinion and
experience.
Cameron
