In an effort to see the 3D effects I tried loading the Nvidia supplied
drivers. After a series of semi-comical mishaps and screwups I tried
uninstalling them and reinstalling the dkms drivers from Mandriva. In the
middle I manages to really bork up my X config, to the point that the display
performance really sucks *and* I don't have 3D effects.

At thins point I toldd the Nvidia drivers to uninstall themselved and have
reinstalled the dkms drivers and managed to get the display working again
(something of an effort as XFdrake doesn't know my monitor - where is that
database kept?) but like I said, performance (particularly in character apps)
really sucks.

I suspect a large part of the problem is shown in the /var/log/Xorg.0.log in
the section regarding libglx loading, shown below:

(II) LoadModule: "/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/nvidia_legacy/libglx.so"
(glx)
(WW) LoadModule: given non-canonical module
name "/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/nvidia_legacy/libglx.so"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/nvidia_legacy/libglx.so
dlopen: libGLcore.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or
directory
(EE) Failed to load /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/nvidia_legacy/libglx.so
(II) UnloadModule: "glx"
(EE) Failed to load
module "/usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/nvidia_legacy/libglx.so" (loader
failed, 7)
(II) LoadModule: "glx"
(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so
(II) Module glx: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
        compiled for 7.1.1, module version = 1.0.0
ABI class: X.Org Server Extension, version 0.3
(==) AIGLX enabled
(II) Loading extension GLX

Perhaps someone has an idea what I borked in here - wrong Nvidia libglx.so,
maybe?
