[NEWBIES] Editing Thank you letters in Layouts.

When editing a thank you letter in the layouts portion of e-base I can not
seem to add the merge fields, such as names,address,etc., I need for the
letter.  I understand the thank you letters are generated from payments.100
and the info I need for the merge field is in names.100, but isn't there a
way to get names, addresses and insert them into the letters?
