I've had pretty good success with using apt-get from http://apt.freshrpms.net. I only use up2date on a few machines that I've paid RedHat for. Everything else is done through apt-get, which is kept really up to date. Note that soon RedHat Fefora Linux will be natively apt-get'able and the official repository (currently at www.fedora.us) will be accessible, so apt-get will probably be the most-used updating tool.
