To their credit WDC has a floppy bootable version of their analysis and
repair tools. I am not much of a wine tweaker, so I couldn't on my own
make my repair floppy. My only option left therefore was to steal back
into MS terrirory. Fortunately for me a guy in my ward chanced to be
running one of their more popular distro's, and from that system we wrote
my bootstrap disk.

Back at home, my sickly penguin patiently bore administration the remedy
prescribed by one DR-DOS from the land of Caldera. ``A bucket of zeros
your archimedes needs'', said DR-DOS.

Now that my Linux box's long term memory is repaired, thanks to all who
imparted wise direction.
