There are problems with getting the Z to hook up to your PC - it took me some time as well. There are two drivers: one that will only set up the SMB connection when you sync, and another that sets up a perpetual USB/TCPIP connection (which I prefer).
If I recall, I had to uninstall everything, and then install the correct driver, and set my options (Zaurus manager on the PC and in the PC Connect settings on the Z) to 'advanced'.
I have a complete set of notes of my setup, but it's on my laptop, and not well formatted. Contact me offlist and I'll send it to you.
browneatbyu.edu (of course, replace the at with @.)
If you haven't be sure to check out http://www.killefiz.de/zaurus/ For the latest sw.

Hi,
I'd like to know if anyone has any experience with the Sharp Zaurus. It runs a build of linux out of the box. Specifically it is called Embedix, version 1.5.0, with kernel 2.4.6 for embedix. I have the SL-5500
I'm been going nuts trying to get it to connect to my xp box. I haven't even tried on Linux yet, because I read that you have to patch your kernel.
At first it didn't work, until I understood how to install the drivers. I installed them and they worked. ( I just followed the directions the second time). Then, I tried to connect to the internet, and now it won't connect to my pc at all. I couldn't for the life of my figure out how to connect to the internet through the usb.
I've tried installing it on other machines, and it works about 25% of the time. Does anyone know anything about this?
Other than that, the PDA rocks by the way... go check it out.
thanks!
