Well, to an extent yes, but I'm a fan of the "There is always a way!" attitude, so here's a way: If you have a POP account somewhere then you can use fetchmail <http://catb.org/~esr/fetchmail/> to grab those emails down to another machine (perhaps your home machine) that isn't a public mail server (and which has a shell account you can use). fetchmail grabs email off another server using just about any protocol and then uses your local machine's mail server to deliver mail, so from that point you can use procmail/smartlist or even mailman to administer the list. Depending on your ISP you may need to configure your local mail server to send mail through your ISP (this is a good idea anyway). All of these programs have a learning curve, but there are good instructions for all. The solution I describe is partially described here <http://catb.org/~esr/fetchmail/fetchmail-man.html#25> under "Good Ways To Use Multidrop Mailboxes". Hmm, this is getting beyond "newbie" grade stuff isn't it... If I felt like I had time I'd describe the solution in more detail.
