I don't know the root of the problem, but this kind of
error comes up when Gnome is loading and there's no
internet connection, or the DNS configuration isn't
setup correctly. That is, you shouldn't get this
problem if you: a) use a different desktop environment
(e.g. KDE, fluxbox, IceWM, etc.) , b) have your
internet connection and name server settings working
correctly.
If your internet stuff is working just fine, then I
dunno. Contrary to what it says, Gnome should work
properly, if I recall correctly.
Either way this a stupid annoyance with Gnome+Redhat
that should have been fixed a long time ago. I
personally like fluxbox (or *box) , but KDE might feel
more comfortable for beginners.
