Not a KDE user, so I'm going to have to take a stab in the dark. Try right clicking on a .java file and looking for something like "Properties" then "Open With.." then assign KWrite and look for something like "make default". That'll work on Gnome, and I can't imagine that KDE is much different. > Beyond that, I haven't been able to successfully set my Windows XP to accept > Linux commands (such as 'ls' or 'grep') from the command line [as is > possible on the Windows machines from on campus]. You've installed Cygwin (just go with the default packages to start) and included at least Bash, right? Cygwin should have added some stuff to your Start menu. One of them should be something like "Cygwin Terminal". You have to use that, can't just hop into the normal Windows console program. Sorry, can't be more exact than that. I've been Linux only since 2000. BTW, when you eventually decide to drink deep from the Linux kool-aid and participate on other lists, you'll probably want to get a Gmail account to replace the Hotmail account. Using a Hotmail account on many lists is almost as bad as using an AOL account. Thankfully, newbies is a much more accepting place than that. ;-) -- Stuart Jansen e-mail/jabber: [EMAIL PROTECTED] "XML is like violence: if it doesn't solve your problem, you aren't using enough of it." - Chris Maden
