There are several ways to do this, actually. One of the easiest is to use KDE's "fish" capabilities, although this will only work in KDE applications like KWrite, Kate, etc. and not in generic X applications like OpenOffice. Basically, just put something like "fish://[EMAIL PROTECTED]/path/to/directory" in your konqueror/kwrite/kate/whatever address bar, and it should ask you to log in. Basically this accesses the files remotely using SSH, so everything is encrypted. You can just access these files remotely like this the whole time, or you can just drag/drop them wherever you want them locally. When you're feeling more advanced, take a look at the man pages for rsync and scp. Just for examples, I use them basically like the following: > scp [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/path/on/remote/host local/path or, for lots of files you need to synchronize: > rsync -e ssh -avz [EMAIL PROTECTED]:/path/on/remote/host/* local/path/ Hopefully this helps, Lloyd Brown -------------------- BYU Unix Users Group http://uug.byu.edu/ The opinions expressed in this message are the responsibility of their author.
