Now you've got me started!

The convention for tab is 8 characters.  To get along with the rest of
the world, don't try to mess with that.

If you want your indents to be smaller than 8 characters, don't use a
tab.  Good editors can make indents be a configurable number of spaces,
which will allow you to get along with the rest of the world while
having your smaller indents.
