1. Install the openssh-server package. 2. Make sure your home computer always receives the same internal IP address from the router. (Can be done with static IP or by configuring DHCP if your router has that option) 3. Configure your home router for port forwarding on port 22 to the IP address of your home computer. 4. Find the external IP address of the router. Easily done in the router status page or by going to http://www.whatismyip.com/ Once those steps are accomplished, you should have external ssh access to your home computer on the default port. The tricky part is that most ISPs issue dynamic IP addresses, which means that the IP address in step 4 changes every so often. The usual workarounds are to buy a static IP address or use dynamic DNS service. That should give the big picture on what needs to be done. Details for individual steps should be readily available through google and/or the instructions for your router.
